My Mother is a Fish

"I understand that grandpa is dead,

but why doesn't he come to pick me up from the kindergarten?"

About

Inspired by a quote from William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying," the sculpture My Mother is Fish explores the experience of life amidst the death of another. The sculpture, reminiscent of a tower crafted from fish-like bones, draws on the imagery of Vardaman, a character in "As I Lay Dying," who realises that his mother is a fish as her coffin floats away in a river.

This piece, while rooted in Faulkner's narrative, embodies my personal experience of death, fragility, and mortality.
